Harvardwood Heads To... Subverting Stereotypes: Re-Writing Asian American Narratives in Film and TV

Stereotypes towards people of Asian heritage have proliferated throughout U.S. history, largely reinforced by a dearth of authentic representations of the varied cultures that make up this population.

For this virtual panel, the Writers Guild Foundation, in partnership with the WGAW’s Asian American Writers Committee and the Coalition for Asian Pacifics in Entertainment (CAPE), will briefly review historic portrayals of Asian Americans in film and television to understand how Hollywood has contributed to harmful characterizations of the community, and they'll discuss how Asian American film and TV writers are updating and revising onscreen and behind-the-screen narratives to be more inclusive, multi-dimensional, and authentic.
