Andrew Carnegie—with whose gift the Nyack Library Carnegie Room was built in 1903—invited Tchaikovsky to the USA to open Carnegie Hall in May 1891. Tchaikovsky was amazed at his popularity in the US: “I am convinced that I am ten times more famous in America than in Europe.” (April 30, 1891) About Andrew Carnegie, Tchaikovsky wrote: “This arch-millionaire is very kind to me, and constantly talks of an engagement for next year….” (May 8, 1891) Experience all this history vicariously with many nice people at the Furuya Sisters' performance of great classical works in Nyack! |
