Are you going to the Toronto International Film Festival?

We are looking for Harvardwood members who will be attending the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival. The Toronto Chapter of Harvardwood is planning to do an event with the Harvard Club of Toronto that centers around the showing of a film at the TIFF. Last year a group from Toronto did this in conjunction with the wonderful documentary HARVARD BEATS YALE 29-29. We met beforehand for dinner, attended the movie, and then had drinks with the director and Harvard alum Kevin Rafferty. So, if you are coming to Toronto with a film this year (or just as an audience member) and would like to be involved, please contact Mark Solovey at [email protected] by Wednesday, Aug. 5th. Kevin Rafferty, Harvard alum, cult filmmaker and attendee of the Harvard-Yale football game of 1968, has a book coming out in October. Following the DVD release of his hugely successful documentary of the same name, HARVARD BEATS YALE 29-29 is a fully-illustrated, star-studded oral history of the greatest game of all time. Alternately suspenseful, hilarious, and poignant, it constructs a vivid portrait of American lives, American sports, and American ideals both tested on the playing field and transformed by turbulent times. The book will be published by Overlook Press on October 13, 2009. Rafferty will be signing books at the Yale Bowl for the Harvard-Yale Game on November 21 along with the team captains of ’68, Vic Gatto and Brian "BD” Dowling. He also will sign books with Frank Champi, Pete Varney and J.P. Goldsmith on October 24th at the Harvard-Princeton game at Harvard Stadium. For more information, please contact Vida Engstrand, Overlook Press, [email protected]

Eva Gordon HMS '00 executive produced PLAY THE GAME, a feature film that will be released in theaters across the nation on August 28th, starring Andy Griffith, Doris Roberts, Paul Campbell, Marla Sokoloff, and Liz Sheridan. The film is a romantic comedy about a young ladies' man who teaches all his dating tricks to his lonely widowed grandfather. Eva's husband, Marc Fienberg, was the writer/director of the movie, which was based upon the life of his own grandfather who started dating again at the age of 89. The movie has already played in test markets in Florida for more than 3 months, earned over $370,000 in box office, and won awards at every film festival in which it played. PLAY THE GAME will be released in 15 cities on over 50 screens on August 28th. Theaters, showtimes, and the movie trailer can be found at http://www.playthegamemovie.com.

Rupak Ginn '05 booked a recurring guest star role on the new hit series "Royal Pains" on USA. He plays Raj, Divya's fiance, and has already been introduced in the series. Be sure to tune into the series finale to find out how things resolve between Raj and Divya!

Cinematographer Morgan Schmidt '94 recently completed work on Anthony Zuiker's (Creator: CSI) newest cross-platform venture LEVEL 26, a "Digi-Novel" which combines an intense crime thriller, novel and interactive community. Financed through Dutton Publishing, LEVEL 26 is the first in a trilogy of books Zuiker envisions as a "revolution in publishing for the YouTube generation." Each book is enhanced with 20 three-minute movies; after reading twenty pages or so, viewers can watch the story's peaks unfold. The visuals are far edgier than CSI: an unveiling at Comic-Con shows presented Zuikers' twisted Sqweegel character (who wears a white latex evidence-proof bodysuit) to audiences with tastes for the creepy and unusual. LEVEL 26 is scheduled for full release on September 8. Watch the online trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmXuA83AZDk

Liz Ryan wants to thank the Harvardwood members whose votes helped elect her Harvard Alumni Association director. Additionally, she is pleased and honored to report that last weekend she was re-elected as an Associate to the National Board of the Directors Guild of America, as well.

Steven Schardt '95 was co-producer on HUMPDAY and encourages all Harvardwood members to see the film after it opens in LA on July 24.
