  • Harvardwood Heads To... Guided Autobiography for Seniors

    A 7-week group for performing arts and entertainment industry professionals 60 and over that takes members through the process of reviewing their life stories via weekly writings based on questions that address major life themes. The group offers members the opportunity to focus on the meaning and purpose of their lives, while promoting well-being and creating community amongst peers.

    Being a professional in the entertainment business comes with its unique challenges. For Black women, these challenges are often compounded by racism and sexism. Join the Actor's Fund for an 8-week group that aims to provide a supportive and uplifting space centering on the experiences of Black women working in entertainment. The intention of the group is to create a safe space solely and deliberately for those who identify as Black women to gather, uplift their collective spirit and share art, wisdom, pain and joy.

    Harvardwood is pleased to present a Harvard Alumni Association Speaker Series Event: "How Stories Shape History" with Professor Martin Puchner

    Martin Puchner is the Byron and Anita Wien Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Harvard University. His prize-winning books and anthologies range from philosophy to the arts. His best-selling Norton Anthology of World Literature and his HarvardX online course have brought 4000 years of literature to students across the globe.

    His book The Written World, a Wall Street Journal bestseller, and has been translated into some twenty languages. His latest book, The Language of Thieves, interweaves family memoir with a reflection on Rotwelsch, the underground language of Central Europe, which he learned from his father and uncle. His forthcoming book, Literature for a Changing Planet, draws lessons from world literature for addressing climate change. He is a member of the European Academy and has received numerous awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Cullman Fellowship, the Berlin Prize, and the Massachusetts Book Award.

    A single-session workshop focused on identifying financial goals and getting specific about the flow of money in our lives. Participants will learn simple strategies for tracking income and expenses in a way that makes sense for performing arts and entertainment industry professionals who don’t always earn and spend the same way each month, and get connected with resources and an action plan to take the next step.

    Showcasing hip-hop, open-style, modern & traditional pieces, the Asian American Dance Troupe’s 6th annual Horizon show is our largest and most anticipated one yet! This year, after the upheavals of the COVID-19 pandemic, the group aims to spotlight contemporary Asian America alongside our celebration of traditional Asian culture.

    In response to the troubling rise of violence and hostility against members of the AAPI community, The Actors Fund is offering a monthly virtual gathering for Asian American and Pacific Islander performing arts and entertainment professionals to come together for supportive conversation. Together they will explore how to balance and navigate everyone's feelings and support and celebrate the group's resilience.

    PREREQUISITE: 

    Free and confidential to all performing arts and entertainment industry professionals nationwide that are part of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community.
