Profile:
Born in India and raised in Los Angeles, Amit Samuel (ALB ‘05) went to college, like many South Asian students, to study medicine. Tragically (for his family anyway), he discovered politics and entertainment. After transferring to and graduating from Harvard, he landed at Discovery Networks. As the executive assistant the Senior Vice President, he is learning the true meaning of the phrase “starting at the bottom.” Nevertheless, working at Discovery combines his interests in entertainment, science, and advanced copier maintenance. In his free time, Amit manages local bands and singer-songwriters. He is also an unabashed foodie and is always on the lookout for a great taqueria, an interesting boite, or a fabulous izakaya.
As the Director for Harvardwood 101 and the Harvardwood Summer Internship Program (HSIP), Amit is responsible for these two career development programs for current Harvard students. Harvardwood 101 is an annual career exploration program that brings two-dozen current undergraduates to Los Angeles during the January term and provides a series of career-related activities in order to demystify Hollywood and educate them about careers in the entertainment industry. The HSIP provides a list of summer internship opportunities in the arts, media and entertainment to interested Harvard students and coordinates events for HSIP participants in various cities throughout the summer.
